It was an exciting time when a national financial organization launched its aggressive growth campaign to expand and capture new markets. Expansive growth was swift, strong and effective as the organization acquired competitors, merged market entities and launched new retail outlets coast to coast. However, internal operations and technology infrastructures were struggling. The complex mainframe applications supporting the core business needed to be upgraded, enhanced and modernized. Finding experienced COBOL resources was daunting as many industry resources had transitioned to enterprise technology or retired. Younger resources entering the industry were not inspired to pursue careers in COBOL. The traditional path to contract specialized resources through vendors and third party agencies was costly and the campaign to recruit and hire experienced resources was unsuccessful. Hiring and training less experienced resources would take years of development. A long-term solution was desperately needed.
Genuity jointly worked with the organization to develop an alternative approach to secure and develop quality resources. Genuity assisted first by deploying experienced COBOL resources to address immediate application development needs. Secondly, we jointly worked with the client to rethink feasible options and to craft a long-term solution. Third, we executed the plan with a commitment to succeed. The solution was so successful the organization deployed the model across all other mainframe team applications.
